Re: Forum for silicone dolls by Doll Sweet now open
Goodness me what a responce ,thank you.
Please not think I'm degrading the doll ,far from it , so far (crosses fingers) I'm finding her to be far superior to my other dolls in many ways
Cannot praise the feel of the skeleton enough, looking forward to a photo session with her just for this reason
And as an add on ,as you know she can stand at the moment without assistance, but for seconds only until I can find appropriate footwear for her.
She would appear to be a size 36 or a size 2 in the UK , tiny tiny feet
The eyes are remarkably complex for a doll.
They really are very forward thinking in their design and it would appear that they listen to comments and improve/experiment.
As said mine was not a complaint rather more of a comment.
Now I understand why small movements of the eye are so hard to achieve, the flat spot would tend to self centre which for a lot of doll owners would be ideal.
They offer stiff joints for posing so why not deluxe eyes suitable for posing....lol...... perhaps one day
I would certainly like them but for now I WILL MASTER THEM for now he shouts !
And I look forward to hearing of future development from you two
Re: Forum for silicone dolls by Doll Sweet now open
And an update to the above.
First off I have bought some footwear for the doll ,I found that the best fit for me and the doll to be Size 1 (UK) and 33 EU .
Tiny tiny feet, the ones chosen are deliberately tight so with some thick socks or even bandages standing may an be option without incurring damage.
Now onto the eyes, I have PMed Mannequinfan to see if indeed he does or can make alternative eyes for DS dolls.
It would appear at the moment only spherical eyes are made , DS eyes are so totally different so I would think that he does not.
We shall see, will update here when I know more .
[…] DS eyes are so totally different so I would think that he does not.
The Doll Sweet eyeballs are regular 24 mm eyes. What makes their design different is the mechanics they are attached to. Other manufacturers like Sanhui or Ruby 13 have married the eyballs with some mechanics as well.
Mannequinfan's 3D printed eyeballs are usually 32 mm (for TPE dolls), but he might be able to adapt his components to a smaller eyeball size. However, primarily you do not want quick change lenses (to quickly switch eye colors), but a replacement for the mechanics. Replacing the whole spring mechanism with something better is a much more complex task than 3d printed eyes with quick change lenses.
A side effect of the eye mechanism is that it makes changing eyes much more complicated, including using high-quality mouth-blown glass eyes. The DS eye mechanism is not glued into the eye sockets, so it is possible to remove it, but there is a very tangible risk to tear the silicone. Usually, the benefits of the eye mechanism justify the reduced flexibility in regard to switching eye colors (imho), but OK - if the spring-based eye mechnism does not work well for you, you are looking for a replacement.
Until someone develops an alternative eye mechanism (which ideally also reduces the risk of tearing the silicone), you could try what TPE manufacturers do - carefully remove the eye mechanism from the head and stuff some synthetic cottonwool behind 24 or 26 mm eye balls. Doll Sweets eye cavity is not designed for that, but it might work just good enough to be an enhancement, if you are absolutely not getting along with the eye mechanism.
Re: Forum for silicone dolls by Doll Sweet now open
OK ,wonderful news , MF is in fact developing replacement eyes for DS dolls ......hooray.
I contacted him by PM over at ODC and received a very interesting reply.
I cannot quote him as yet although i have asked his permission to do so .
I have asked him to start a thread over at ODC in the DS section, hopefully he will, also I provided a link to this very discussion so again hopefully he will drop in .
So lets see what happens, good news that he is looking into all this.

And a thought ,would it be possible if a new topic on this subject could be started on the forum and the possibility of transferring all current eye info into it?
Another headache for you Sandro, it might be a good idea though as there would appear to be quite an interest on the subject

Aye, thankies, makes it easier.
Well, I for one would love to see MF participate and I am pretty sure we'll manage to come up with something nice.
All the best.
OK an update.
After having a chat with MF he is making some eyes for me and I am on the waiting list.
So we will see what comes of this.
As an aside, while trying to kill the shiny make up some of the corn starch went into the eye.It seems to lubricate the eyeball ,further testing is going on.

Ah, it sucks that changing the DS eyes isn't a simple operation.
